Larry Ellison says Amazon is ’20 years behind’ Oracle

Larry Ellison continued his assault on Amazon during his second keynote address at Oracle OpenWorld on Tuesday.

“Amazon Web Services are simply not optimized for the Oracle Database. I’ll go further than that: Amazon Web Services aren’t optimized for their own databases either, as you will see,” he said, while showing off a set of benchmarks that showed Oracle Database performing several times faster on Oracle’s cloud than it does on Amazon’s cloud. “It doesn’t get better, it gets worse.”

Facebook Messenger chief: It will be years before everyone has M

If you were hoping Facebook would use last week’s F8 conference to release its AI assistant M to the mainstream, you’re going to have to wait a lot longer.

In an interview with The Verge, Facebook’s Messenger chief David Marcus confirmed what many insiders have suspected for awhile: M won’t be broadly available for “years.”

Responding to a question about how to make M more useful, Marcus acknowledged the company still has a long way to go before it’s ready for all Facebook users. 

Facebook began testing M in August; the service has been limited to a small group of early testers since then. Similar to products from startups like Magic and Operator, M is able to complete tasks like booking travel, ordering food and scheduling appointments.  Read more…
